Alyssa Graham’s “Echo” released today!

Posted July 30, 2008 By admin

Vocalist Alyssa Graham’s stunning new album, ‘Echo,’ releases today. From “Pictures of You,” a musical travelogue that traces the arc of a modern day love affair, to “Involved Again,” a previously unrecorded gem originally written some 50 years ago for jazz legend Billie Holiday, ‘Echo‘ proves Alyssa Graham to be a singer of remarkable talent and range.

Jazz.com gave her rendition of Paul Simon’s “America” a 94/100, calling it “a standout performance” and going on to rave that “she projects herself completely into the psychological space of Paul Simon’s song, singing with total honesty and directness.”

Tony Lucca

Posted July 29, 2008 By admin

Tony Lucca is well-known by many for performing with Britney, Justin and Christina on the 90s version of “The Mickey Mouse Club.” He was even interviewed and featured in last year’s “E! True Hollywood Story” about the kids involved, particularly those aforementioned names. But fast-forward to 2008, and you’ll find Lucca very much beyond his Mouseketeer days.

Currently on tour promoting his brilliant stage show, Lucca has cultivated a 10-year solo career as a gifted musician. His rich vocal quality can range from velvet to grit with seemingly little effort. He writes and sings with fervent honesty. His lyrics are provocative in every sense of the word : politically, emotionally and socially. In short, Lucca does what an artist is intended to do: his compositions expose everything within and around him, both beautiful and broken, and dare any listener to ignore his exceptional talents.

His current EP, ‘Close Enough,’ consists of five tracks recorded with just Lucca and his guitar in a single session. The blues-infused title track has stirred debate amongst audiences for its socio-political themes ranging from war to immigration; controversial subjects many musicians would step back from discussing. Lucca, however, holds up the mirror and asks, “tell me, is it hittin’ close enough to home for you, yet?” Also on the EP is the slightly tongue-in-cheek “True Story,” an uncensored tale of Lucca’s journey into adulthood. Tinged by a country music vibe, the song describes his life from the mischievous days of being a teenaged Disney performer to becoming a conscientious man and artist. In the end, Lucca determines with mature certainty: “it takes the time it takes to get it right.”

As L.A.-based Lucca hits the road with singers Joe Firstman (Carson Daly‘s band leader) and Brian Wright, he has become a mainstay on the tour circuit and in his L.A., Midwestern, and NYC stomping grounds. Already armed with a reputation for captivating crowds with the sheer power and energy of his voice and stage presence, he recently sold out the popular NYC venue, Joe’s Pub, entirely on his own merit.

If he’s close enough to you this summer (tour dates below), don’t miss Lucca on the Firstman Family Affair tour with guest appearances from Carson Daly in select cities.

The EP ‘Close Enough‘ is available now on iTunes. The new album ‘Come Around Again’ due to be released Fall 2008.

Klas is a 5 member band from Malmo Sweden. They make some very cool songs. The songwriting is very interesting and quirky, Klas has humor in his songs that could be compared to fellow Sweden country man Jens Lekman and to Adam Green among others. He has some charm as well. He has a wide variety of influences, including Tom Petty, Nick Lowe and Prince. People have even compared Klas to Lou Reed and Jesus and Mary Chain. Their debut album “To Sleep And Love” is currently available for the price of 10 dollars, to purchase it e-mail klastheband@gmail.com .

The Gabe Dixon Band

Posted July 25, 2008 By admin

Who turns down a personal offer to play keyboard on Paul McCartney’s world tour? Gabe Dixon did, and it was probably the best decision of his life. Dixon respectfully turned McCartney down to focus his energies on his band’s then-yet-to-be-released album.

The first incarnation of The Gabe Dixon Band was born nine years ago as a jam band with heavy jazz influences, but after a bout of cutbacks and regime changes at their original label, the band members had a collective epiphany and decided to reinvent themselves as a song-based trio. A reviewer for The Nashville Tennessean, Dixon ‘s hometown paper, called it early in 2005 when he stated unequivocally that the young artist “deserves to join the ranks of Jackson Browne and early Elton John in the pop pantheon.”

The Gabe Dixon Band cut their self-titled album, due out on August 26th, live at Nashville ‘s renowned Blackbird Studios with co-producer/ engineer mixer Neal Cappelino (Alison Krauss, Mindy Smith, Jonny Lang). Dixon wrote all songs on the album and received a little help from heavyweights like Dan Wilson, Grammy winner for his work on Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready To Make Nice.” The album embeds vividly detailed, intensely personal and universally relatable songs in elegant yet muscular settings that draw, unabashedly and expertly, on classic rock, and the combination is intoxicating.

Of the newfound song focus of his onetime jam band, Dixon says, “We love great songs and real musicianship, and we take time as a band to come up with something that isn’t typical, because the arrangement and performance can be just as impactful as the song itself. We’ve become more refined, and to the point, making the impact direct and immediate. The idea is pretty simple, really: We’re dedicated to playing music people like that we like too.”
