Roma di Luna-Then The Morning Came
A few months ago I bought an audio recorder for recording concerts. I wanted to try it out as soon as I could, and the first show I was able to see was a free set by Roma di Luna promoting their new album Then The Morning Came. I had never heard of them before, but it was free and it was a good chance to practice taping. It was one of the best musical decisions I’ve made in recent memory. The lead singer Channy Casselle’s voice literally almost took my breath away the first time I heard it, and the music behind it is a perfect match to her voice. Roma di Luna started out as a duo of Channy and her husband Alexei, and has grown into a full blown band. The making of Then The Morning Came was surrounded by a lot of events in the bands personal life, including the birth of 4 babies to various members of the band, and that influence is felt on the first track of the album, “Baby Hotel“, which starts off with the sounds of babies playing. Some of the other songs that reflect the mood of the band are “Before I Die“, which describes a lifelong struggle to escape a place that you don’t belong, and to finally get to a place where you are happy in life. “Hey Lover” describes the loss of a loved one (it’s not quite clear who that is though), and the desire to do anything to have them back, only to realize in the end, there is nothing you can do to change the way things are. This album is definitely in my top 10 list of albums for the year, it is easily one of the most beautiful and one of the most unexpected albums because of how I discovered it. Other standout tracks to look for: “Starling“, “Porcupine” & “Below Our Feet“.
