Happy Birthday Bob Dylan
Today is Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday. It’s weird to think about that because although it seems like he’s been in music forever, he still seems so young at the same time. He still tours at a grueling pace, he puts out records as often as anyone else 40 years younger than him, and is as relevant now as he was in the 1960’s. Dylan has been my favorite artist for quite a few years now, and one of the things that drew me to him (outside of the obvious lyrics, music and personality) is that he was born and raised in Minnesota, as was I. I’ve been to his birthplace (Duluth), as well as his childhood home (Hibbing) and it makes you feel a connection with him that you might not be able to experience if you don’t live near enough to visit those places. His influence on many past and current artists is far too widespread to comprehend, but think of your favorite artist, and chances are they’ve been influenced by Dylan at some point. Anyways, I could probably write a book about everything I think about Bob (and that would be fine with him), so I’ll stop here. Here are a few blog postings today about Bob, I’ll be posting some of my own in the upcoming days.
