Ryan Adams-Ashes & Fire

I’ve been a huge Ryan Adams fan since the first day I heard Come Pick Me Up, and I haven’t regretted it since. But, I’ll be honest, the last couple albums have made me wonder if he would ever regain the form that made me fall in love with his music in the first place. Thankfully, he has released “Ashes & Fire“, and while I won’t call it a “comeback”, it is definitely a step in the right direction. It’s more acoustic based than his past couple albums, and his voice has never sounded better. My favorite song on the album is “I Love You But I Don’t Know What To Say“, it’s a really atmospheric and sweet song about finding the right person in life, and one can only assume it’s about his new bride, Mandy Moore. She seems to have had a positive effect on his life, and it is shining through in his music as well. Another highlight of the album is “Lucky Now“, which according to Ryan is about his former band mate, the late Chris Feinstein (affectionately nicknamed Spacewolf). It was the first single from the album, as it’s one of the more upbeat, radio friendly songs represented here. Fans of Ryan should see this album as a great sign of things to come, and proof that he still has whatever ingredient it takes to be a brilliant musician.

I am a huge admirer of Ryan Adam’s work and this CD as well. I would rank this as one of the best of 2011. My favorite tracks are Do I Wait and Invisible Riverside. Mandy Moore or not, Ryan Adams is a musical talent that continues to develop and fascinate with his artistry!
