Zee Avi-Ghostbird

Zee Avi probably isn’t a name that’s familiar to most people, but with her talent, it will be very soon. She is a Malaysian born folk/pop singer and guitar player. Her most recent album, Ghostbird, is one of the best albums I’ve had a chance to listen to this year, and really showcases her vocal abilities. The album starts out with “Swell Window“, which to me seems to be about a long distance relationship, and trying to hold onto the precious moments you have together before you are separated by distance again. One of my other favorite tracks is “31 Days“, a song written about one of her friends, who was homeless at one point in life and remarked “I was homeless for 31 days in June”. It’s probably one of the best examples of how lyrics and music can compliment each other to get a message across, and it makes for a moving song. If you enjoy the songs below, be sure to pick up the album, it’s worth the money (and more).
