Picks Of The Week

Posted January 16, 2018 By admin

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but my plan is to do it once a week (Monday when possible). Basically, it’s a playlist of songs I’ve discovered, or re-discovered in the past week. I try to limit the song selection to one song per artist/band, to make it as varied as possible. I’m going to include a Spotify playlist, as well as a link to download a ZIP file of the songs. The reason for the ZIP is it sometimes will include songs not included on the Spotify playlist, as I’ve already found a few songs that weren’t in their database. The point of these posts are to expose people to new music, and hopefully you’ll discover something you like each week.

Songs included in the ZIP download that are NOT on the Spotify playlist:

  • Charlie Parr – Blind Willie McTell
  • Daniel Romano – Bring Me To The War
  • Jewel – Emily
  • Hobo Nephews Of Uncle Frank – High Water
  • DeathRhyme – Hmoov Tsis Zoo (ft. Melinda Vang)
  • Romano Drom – Hulav Te Sej
  • Hattie Peterson – Masters Of War
  • The State Champs – Oxford Town
  • R. Carlos Nakai, William Eaton, Will Clipman – Reflections in an Emerald Pool
  • Trampled By Turtles – Shelter From the Storm
  • Sheila Chandra – Song to the Siren
  • Stacey Randol – That Spirit of Christmas
  • Jerree Small – To Ramona
  • New Breed – Voices Of Sorrow
  • Little Black Books – Walkin’ Down the Line
  • Ol’ Yeller – When The Ship Comes In

Top Albums of 2017

Posted January 1, 2018 By admin

Another year has come and gone, and the time has come to look back and put together a list of my favorite albums released in 2017. While there wasn’t really an album that blew me away like last year (You Want It Darker in particular), there were definitely a lot of good, solid albums that made choosing one over another harder this year. I listened to a total of 244 albums that were released in 2017, and narrowed it down to my top 15 in order. I also included a few in no particular order that didn’t make the cut but still deserve to be mentioned. I will also be posting my favorite songs from the past year in the next couple days, including my first effort at making a Spotify playlist to include (stepping into the 21st Century finally).

Honorable mentions:

15. Benjamin Booker – Witness

14. Ane Brun – Leave Me Breathless

13. Malik Turner – Hip Hop Homicide (1992-1994)

12. Almighty American – Somewhere Ride

11. Miley Cyrus – Younger Now

10. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real – Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real

9. John Mayer – The Search for Everything

8. Dan Auerbach – Waiting on a Song

7. Hurray for the Riff Raff – The Navigator

6. Bob Dylan – Triplicate

5. Bobby Bare – Things Change

4. Alexz Johnson – A Stranger Time

3. Erik Koskinen – Cruising Paradise

2. Sammy Brue – I Am Nice

1. Andrew Combs – Canyons of My Mind
