Record Store Day 2012

Posted April 23, 2012 By admin

Yesterday was Record Store Day, a day that see many exclusive releases, record stores throwing parties of all kinds, and basically just a fun day for music lovers. I was able to get everything on my want list (and more), so it was definitely a good day.

Hopefully everybody else was able to get what they wanted and had some fun yesterday. Here are this weeks picks of the week as well:

  • Between The Bars-Amelia
  • I Miss You- Ben Kweller
  • The Biggest Lie- Dolorean
  • The Best Part- El Madmo
  • Thirteen- Elliott Smith
  • American Triangle- Elton John
  • (I Don’t Want to Go To) Chelsea (Basing Street Studios Version)- Elvis Costello
  • Going Home (Alternate Take 29)- Elvis Presley
  • Happiness-Lifesavas
  • Rose Parade- Sexton Blake
  • Satellite- The Helio Sequence

Chelsea Hotel

Posted October 9, 2007 By admin

The Chelsea Hotel has long been known as a “flop house” for authors, actors and singers. Some of the most prestigious people ever have stayed there, from Dylan Thomas to Bob Dylan to The Andy Warhol Superstars. It even served as a refuge for some of the Titanic survivors for a while. The hotel is often referenced in pop culture, such as films, book and of course, music. Some of the most famous songs by Bob Dylan were written during his time at the Chelsea (Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands to name just one), and the list goes on and on. Here are just a few songs that reference the Chelsea Hotel in some form.

Leonard Cohen- Chelsea Hotel No. 2
Elvis Costello- (I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea
Counting Crows- Chelsea

Cover songs

Posted August 24, 2007 By admin

I’ve run across some pretty interesting covers the last few weeks, and thought I’d post them. Some sounds close to the originals, and some sound vastly different. Either way, each artist gives the song a little of themselves and makes for a nice & interesting listen.

JoJo- Beautiful Girls (Sean Kingston)
Robyn- Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson)
Elvis Costello- Ring Of Fire (Johnny Cash)
Paolo Nutini- Rehab (Amy Winehouse)
Mandy Moore- Umbrella (Rihanna)
