Grieves-Winter & The Wolves

Posted April 13, 2014 By admin

Grieves-Winter & The WolvesGrieves is back with a new album, and it is definitely vintage Grieves. It explores numerous themes, is intensely personal at times, and still manages to have lighthearted moments.. Some highlights: “Like Child“, which tells the story of a son trying to make sense of a dysfunctional childhood and family, and knowing he’s headed down the same path as his parents. “Over You” is about a relationship that is about to fail or has already failed, that’s up to interpretation. B. Lewis adds a great chorus here, his soulful voice perfectly compliments the beat behind it. My favorite song on the album is actually a bonus track that came with pre-orders, titled “Death Of Me“. Similar to “Over You“, this song is about an ex-girlfriend who feels the need to stay in contact, and being able to break free of the chains of a bad relationship. Fans of 88 Keys & Counting should be happy with this album, as I felt Together/Apart was a bit of a drop off for Grieves, but Winter & The Wolves proves Grieves is still one of the top lyricists in the rap game.

Grieves- Together/Apart

Posted December 8, 2011 By admin

One thing I’ve noticed this year is that there have been quite a few strong rap releases. Grieves most recent album, Together / Apart, is right at the top of that list. This is his first full length release with Rhymesayers, and it was definitely worth the wait. For those not familiar with Grieves, he combines rap with singing and smart lyrics, and even some rock sprinkled in here and there. Budo is the guy making all the beats for the album, and he does an amazing job as always. Grieves may not look like your typical rapper, but when he opens his mouth, there is no mistaking what is coming out of his mouth is worth your time and money. Together / Apart is a strong album from start to finish. It opens with the first single off the album, “Lightspeed“, which is a song about reminiscing on child hood and how people need to slow down in life. Another standout track to me is “Pressure Cracks“, which, as the title implies, is about pressures in life, whether it be relationships, fame, or expectations. Anyone looking for an album that has quite a bit of thought provoking lyrics, but also has a fun side to it as well, this is the one you are looking for.

  • Lightspeed
  • Pressure Cracks
